Black and Tan

The drink is great and the look may be even better--minus the buzz ; ) I have been noticing a good number of young, thin, beautiful celebs pairing brown and black lately--and while I pride myself in individuality and NOT looking like a clone, I can't deny that this look does have an odd appeal. I think the draw is the subtle way it whispers, "rebel!" I mean let's be honest, we've always been told that brown is a natural color and black is...well, black. It's its own entity that can go with anything other than brown. And now, to have the option of partnering the two? Well that's just plain liberating!

I love how some of these ladies have chosen to put the look together:

Ashley Olsen

Kate Hudson

Kate Moss

Chloe Sevigny

Nicole Richie

The look definitely has a bit of a hippie-chic flare to it...avant garde so to speak. There isn't really a rule here other than to start mixing and matching what you already have in your closet. One tip that I can give after trying the look myself--is that for an extra punch, trying making your whole outfit black and only adding one brown piece. I did black skinnies, black sweater and brown shoes and it added a little extra kick to the outfit:

You can also feel free to incorporate this trend with of-the-moment leggings. Black leggings with brown riding boots is one of my favorite 5-min to look-great outfits. And don't think you have to be in head-to-toe black to pull this off:

With this look my only guidance is to keep the top off-white or grey, white is too stark.

Not to mention--black and brown fits in remarkably well with the all of the animal prints floating around these days:

J Crew

Miss Selfridge

Kenneth Jay Lane

So, your take-away? Don't be afraid to break an age-old fashion rule every once and awhile...color outside the lines, experiment. You never know what you might discover : )

Have fun, talk soon.

I love black and brown together. Throw some grey in and you've got my current favorite color combo. Good call!
